Champions League: Cristiano Ronaldo scores 750th career goal to power Juventus to 3-0 win

Star striker Cristiano Ronaldo on Wednesday scored his 750th career goal during Juventus’ 3-0 win against Dynamo Kyiv in a Group G match of the ongoing  Champions League.

Federico Chiese gave Juventus the lead in the first half, before goals from Ronaldo and Morata sealed the three points for the Bianconerri at home at the Allianz Stadium on Wednesday evening.

“750 goals, 750 happy moments, 750 smiles on the faces of our fans. Thanks to all the players and coaches who have helped me reach this incredible number, thanks to all my loyal opponents who have made me work harder and harder every day,” Ronaldo wrote in an Instagram post as he thanked coaches and fans.

“Next stop: 800,” he added.

The 35-year-old has so far scored 450 goals for Real Madrid, 118 for Manchester United, 102 for Portugal, 75 for Juventus and five for Sporting.

Wednesday’s game was also the first time that a female referee — Stephanie Frappart – took charge of a Champions League match.

Meanwhile, in another match of the same group, Lionel Messi-less Barcelona thrashed Ferencvaros to remain at the top of the group with 15 points. Juventus are second with 12 points. Both the team will face each other in the last group match next week.

Griezmann, Braithwaite and Dembele were the scorers for the Catalan giants at the Puskas Arena in Budapest.

Ronaldo, along with Lionel Messi, Mohammad Salah and Robert Lewandowski, is among the candidates shortlisted for this year’s Best FIFA Men’s Player Award.

Thiago Alcantara, Kevin De Bruyne, Sadio Mane, Kylian Mbappe, Neymar, Sergio Ramos and Virgil van Dijk are the other nominees for the men’s award which was won by Messi last year.

The award ceremony, which was earlier scheduled to take place in September but was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, will be held virtually on December 17.
