Todd Haimes, who constructed New York’s Roundabout Theater Firm into one of many metropolis’s – and nation’s- main nonprofit theaters, died at the moment at New York’s Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital of issues from osteosarcoma, a bone most cancers. He was 66.

Haimes opened Roundabout’s first Broadway house on the Criterion Middle in 1991, and noticed such early triumphs as Anna Christie, starring Liam Neeson and Natasha Richardson, and New York’s first revival of She Loves Me, each in 1993. With the $24-million capital marketing campaign to renovate forty second Road’s historic Selwyn Theatre, the Roundabout took possession of what’s now its major Broadway house, the American Airways Theatre.
Among the many Roundabout’s biggest successes was the 1998 revival of Cabaret directed by Sam Mendes and co-directed and choreographed by Rob Marshall. After a building accident instantly shuttered the environmental house the place Cabaret was taking part in, Haimes set about renovating the previous dance membership Studio 54, the place Cabaret went on to run till 2003. Throughout its run, Roundabout negotiated the acquisition of the house, making it the corporate’s second Broadway venue.

In 2009, Roundabout took over the operation of Broadway’s Henry Miller Theatre, renaming it the Stephen Sondheim Theatre, the place Haimes produced such hits because the Tony-winning Something Goes (2011). The venue at present is house to the hit musical & Juliet.
Born in New York Metropolis, Haimes graduated from the College of Pennsylvania and Yale College Faculty of Administration. He’s survived by spouse Jeanne-Marie Haimes; daughter Hilary Haimes and her husband Jonathan Salik; son Andrew Haimes and his spouse Stacy Haimes; 4 grandchildren; and stepdaughters Julia and Kiki Baron.
